HPTLC PROFILING AND FTIR FINGERPRINTING COUPLED WITH CHEMOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF MALAYSIAN STINGLESS BEE PROPOLIS

Propolis is a natural substance produced by the bees to protect their hive. The present work reports utilization of chemical profiling and fingerprinting combined with multivariate analysis for discrimination geographical origin Malaysian stingless bee propolis. High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) has been performed profile composition Geniotrigona thoracica propolis from different localities in East Coast Peninsular Malaysia namely Besut, Terengganu (BST), Dungun, (DGN), Lundang, Kelantan (LDG), Tanah Merah, (TM) Gua Musang, (GM). obtained HPTLC profiles showed presence flavonoids, phenolics terpenoids was through Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Chemometric on FTIR dataset using principal component (PCA) hierarchical cluster (HCA) have classified into three major groups according sampling locations. Chemical functional group via chemometric revealed that locations direct correlation composition, thus affecting biological activities Both marker are important tools standardization.
